Pau D’Arco
Pau D’arco is a small tropical tree or a large shrub that primarily belongs to Argentina. This shrub is initially a very small vine that grows to become very large as it ages. Pau D’arco can be as tall as 160 feet and as little as only 16 feet at times. Some of these shrubs are evergreen and do not shed leaves in fall like others.
These plants are very interesting with leaves features in opposite direction and a bunch of flowers in red, purple, pink and white colors. The flowers are in different varieties. However, the colors such as crimson, violet, magenta and red are considered useful for medical purposes.
Sometimes, these shrubs or trees are also rich with small pods or fruits that include many winged seeds. The medical preparations by herbalists usually require an internal (usually dried) bark of Pau D’arco tree.
The barks contain a chemical compound known as ‘naphthaquinones,’ which is rich with medical qualities. According to studies, naphthaquinones compounds are medically beneficial because they are rich with antifungal properties. In fact, the reports declared that the function of these compounds is much more effective than any other prescribed antifungal drugs.
Even after you cut down the bark from the tree, the antifungal characteristics are so sturdy that it does not let mildew or mold form on the bark for a very long time.
Apart from this, there are many other compounds present in the bark which also include antiviral, antibacterial and anti-parasitic compounds. On top of this, further research showed that Pau D’arco is also rich with anti-inflammatory properties.
It is also one of the most common home remedies used for psoriasis. Pau D’arco also helps protect liver and works as a poison neutralizer to save the liver from its effect.
Pau D’arco is available in the form of capsules. |
